Best Places for Engagement Photos in Detroit

Belle Isle
Belle Isle is one of my favorite places to take photos for any occasion! I even did my own engagement pictures here. If you are someone who loves both nature and architecture, this is the perfect spot for you. The island has beautiful old buildings, from the Casino building to the plant conservatory. If you want to incorporate the the industrial scene of Detroit, you can take a photo at the point of the island where you can see the Detroit skyline.
One of the best spots to take photos at Belle Isle is the fountain. This is a popular location for engagement and wedding sessions. The historical fountain is white and elegant. Just keep in mind the time of day shooting here since there is no shade to shelter you from direct sunlight!
The Detroit Institute of Arts
The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) it's a popular pick for anyone who is looking for elegant engagement photos. The all-white building is a perfect backdrop to give awe to your photos while also making YOU this center of attention! The symmetry, arches and stairs of the building make is a fun place to add interest and boldness to your engagement photos as well. Fisher Building
The Fisher Theatre is one of the most unique buildings in downtown Detroit. The lobby is open 24/7 and allows flash photography without a permit, which makes it an easy and fun destination for weddings and engagements! Currently visitors can only use the first floor, but that's where all the good stuff is, anyway! From the revolving class doors outside to the gold elevators, this place is ideal for anyone looking for classic, vintage inspired photos. The Z Garage
The Z Parking Garage is a popular location for many when taking photos downtown. If you're looking to capture the essence of Detroit in one photo, this is a great option! The top of the garage is open and makes for a great view of the city. There is also art all throughout the garage that's worth incorporating as well. This is also a great spot for a proposal. Photographer note: This area tends to get hit with harsh direct sunlight during the day. Plan your photos for 1-2 hours before sunset to get that golden glow for your photos!
Campus Martius
Campus Martius is at the heart of downtown Detroit. It's a close walk to the River Walk, the Z garage and not too far from Comerica Park. If you're looking to capture the essence of Detroit with buildings, architecture and street life, this is the perfect location for you. The only downfall of taking engagement photos at Campus Martius is the probably of having others around.
I recommend choosing a Sunday evening or weekday to take photos so you don't have to worry about people blocking your shot!

Around Downtown
This particular photos was taken at Grand Circus Park downtown near Comerica Park. I was walking around downtown with this couple when I spotted the glass sheds at this park. It's amazing what you can find around downtown when you're just walking!
